Polly Morgan

Just discovered the work of artistPolly Morgan. She uses taxidermied animals and places them in an elegantly dark setting. All of the animals she uses in her work have either been found in road casualties or were donated by vets whose deaths were natural or unpreventable. There's still a couple I couldn't bear to post because they were so hard to look at. Particularly one with a fox curled up in a bowl with a chandelier above it. While I understand her intention to turn it into something beautiful, it just breaks my heart.

adopt me

just discovered this amazing artist paulina temmes via pinterest. She makes these amazing animals that have so much personality. She conveys so much emotion with their sweet little sad embroidered faces. It just makes you want to take one home. Her shop should reopen next month, but in the meantime here's her blog.

Harry Potter Criterion Collection

How awesome is this design by student Patrick Sullivan for a Harry Potter Criterion Box Set? While I doubt Harry Potter will ever be released by Criterion Collection, this is one set my shelves would love to hold. I love the use of the Daily Prophet on the back of each edition. So wonderful.

Mari Andrews

Just found the beautiful portfolio of artist Mari Andrews. I love her mix of materials and limited color palette. She uses natural and man-made objects to make three-dimensional drawings. (love that!) More of her work on her site.

the goldfish

With Borders going out of business :( I ran out and snagged the new lula and Vs magazine for 40% off. They had the best selection of import magazines and the only place around that carried lula. So sad.

Anyway, I picked up this copy of Vs having never looked at this magazine before. It is filled with amazing photography including this beautiful shoot with Lily Cole by artist Paolo Ventura. He hand sculpts these miniature sets and then photographs them. The result is nothing short of magical.

living in a paper world

after making my encaustic/paper bird I decided I wanted to make something else. I asked my 10 year old friend what I should make next and after looking at the polaroid I shot at a fair on my desk she replied "you should make a carousel!"

At first I laughed and thought "yeah right." But then I got an image in my head and worked on it for the past week and a half. It's made out of paper, old book pages and lace all coated in wax. I had a hard time figuring out what to make the animals out of, but I think the lace turned out pretty nice. Now what to make next...
