sugarcoated street art

How amazing is this cake piping street art by canadian artist Shelley Miller?  What a crazy and fantastic idea.  She does everything from intricate piping work to using royal icing to attach painted fondant tiles.  (I think it's fondant, her website doesn't say.)  What an inspiring way to brighten up some decaying and graffiti covered walls.

Stanley Kubrick Treasures

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
have opened the first U.S. retrospective of the work of iconic filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.
From the looks of these photographs, this is an exhibit not to miss!  I wish I could make it out to L.A. before it ends in June.  Oh to see the famous white suit and bowler hat worn by Malcolm McDowell in one of my all-time favorite films "A Clockwork Orange".  Or the creepy sisters' dresses from The Shining along with Jack's typewriter complete with text of "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."  Utterly fantastic!

movie stills: bright star

I recently rewatched Bright Star with Ben Wishaw and Abbie Cornish.  Oh how I loved this film.  It's so quiet, sad, lovely, and tender with beautifully captured shots of rooms bathed in light from the windows, fields of wildflowers, gorgeous old trees, and a room filled with a butterfly garden.  It is the sweet and sad tale of the life of poet John Keats.  These stills look like paintings from the same era the film was set in.  If you haven't already seen it I would highly recommend it.

Small Business Saturday

Today is Smal Business Saturday so everyone either go out to your favorite small business or go online to etsy, society6, big cartel or one of the many other online artisan shops.  Society6 is having free international shipping though Monday and they have now added these lovely new pillows.  The above is a selection from my shop.

And for anyone in the Atlanta area I will have work along with many other great artists and crafters at the Indie Craft Experience Pop-Up Shop which opens tonight inside Criminal Records from 6-9pm.  There will be live music and the first 100 attendees will receive free swag bags so come on out!

spread the word

I really hate when things like this happen.  A fellow photographer Jessica Nichols had her work stolen and used repeatedly by fashion designer Chris Benz.  He is denying allegations that this is the same photograph.  (c'mon!)  Please help her fight this battle and spread the word.  More info on her blog.

feathers, antlers, & pagodas oh my

Alexander McQueen was a master of theatrical fashion.  He used materials in ways you'd never imagined.  I am constantly inspired when I go back and look through his archives.  I particularly love his fantastical headpieces that adorned his looks.  I'm just going down the street in a gorgeous lace gown with giant glass(?) antlers with sheer fabric on my head.  So dreamy.  I wish I could have seen the Savage Beauty exhibition at the Met.  This book will have to suffice.
