television interiors: pushing daisies - the pie hole

Oh how I love this show.  Why oh why did they cancel it?  Especially after only 2 seasons?  At least I can relive it on dvd.  One of the best things about this show are the amazing sets.  I'm going to have to divide these up into three posts so it's not insanely long with pictures.
First off: The Pie Hole.  If there was a pie shop as adorable as this one, you can guarantee I would be a regular. (and I don't even like pie that much!)  The pie crust roof, the cherry lights hanging from the ceiling, the old fashioned scale and register and the overall color scheme of green and red.  And the piemaker's not too shabby looking either.

I just started a new series this week.  I've had a ton of ideas in my head over the last couple of weeks and didn't know where they were heading until I finished the top piece a couple of days ago.  I finished the blue one yesterday.  They are both pencil and watercolor on thick 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper (which I love).  I'm going to do some more of these, but in the meantime I've made prints available on Society6 and the originals are available in my etsy shop.

I recently discovered the amazing work of artist Brad Kunkle via Hi-Fructose Magazine.  He uses gold and silver leaf in his oil paintings which gives them this dreamlike luminosity.  They literally look like they are glowing.  I wish I could see his work in person as I'm sure the effect is even more beautiful.  For now I will continue salivating over my keyboard.

and the red carpet continues...

Last night there was double the carpet with both the BAFTA's in London (which is what I watched) and the Grammys in California.  I've never actually been able to sit through an entire Grammy Awards show I usually just watch bits and pieces of the red carpet even though I have no idea who most of the people who come are.  If I hear that "We are young" song one more time I'm going to break something.  Anyway,  there were some interesting fashion choices on that red carpet.  The BAFTA's was a good show, just WAY too many commercials!  It was insane.  (and Helen Mirren has pink hair!)  Next weekend awards season will wrap up with the Independent Spirit Awards and finally the Oscars!  Here are my favorite looks from both shows last night:

pretty packaging

I love getting stuff in the mail.  Especially when it's wrapped up as lovely as my latest etsy purchase from pretty little thieves.  I grabbed the mail while my husband and I were leaving to go to whole foods and was so excited when I found this lovely little package amidst the junk mail.  It was wrapped so pretty I waited until I go home to open it (and I have absolutely no patience whatsoever so that says a lot) just so I could photograph it.  This sad party girl is now brightening up my living room.

You may remember my 3D version of a multi-animal carousel.  I've been so into drawing lately with my animal series I thought I'd do a 2D version.  It looks really cute as a shirt, I just might have to get it.

chanel and cinderella

I absolutely adore the Chanel Spring 2013 Couture Collection.  It is insanely beautiful and innovative.  How crazy are those shoe/boot/leggings?  They make every outfit.  My favorite has got to be the top black and white little dress.  So classic and beautiful just like Chanel.  The last dress reminds me of this awesomely crazy dress one of the ugly stepsisters wore in my favorite adaptation of Cinderella illustrated by Hilary Knight (who also did Eloise).  The length, the ragged texture, even the hair!  So perfect.

-Holy crap!  I just looked up how much my copy of Cinderella is worth!  Children's books are apparently a good investment, not just for your child's development!
