welcome to the dollhouse

Recently broke out my dollhouse that my grandfather made for me from my parent's attic. I forgot how wonderful it is. He even made me a bunch of furniture to go inside it, all painted pink and blue. The front is beautifully painted white with a blue door and a pink roof. He was so good at building things. I remember I was too shy to open it when we all gathered together to open our christmas presents. (the box was almost as tall as I was!) But after my mom and I opened it, I loved it to pieces.

(I have no idea why I put a rabbit family inside, but I think it's kind of funny now.

Just found these amazing polaroid light up boxes by polaboy. What a fantastic idea! I'm so glad this art form hasn't died.

Happy Happy

Happy Valentine's Day!

Haven't taken any new photos in over a month until sunday. Had to go buy a buch of balloons which are strewn about my bedroom floor. My dogs are terrified of them.

my mixed bag

Hope everyone had a lovely Halloween! Just finished posting my new 2012 calendars. I had a lot of fun making them this time. Not sure yet which one is my favorite, but probably the polaroid one. Can't believe it's already November!

big top

I've been meaning to shoot my big top for awhile and I finally got around to it yesterday. It's the second sculpture in my series of work I'm doing about the circus/fair. Isn't it weird how the polaroids turned out so whitewashed? People ask me all the time why I still use polaroid film when I can just alter my photos in photoshop. This is precisely that reason. The unpredictability. I'm almost done with my ferris wheel which I'm pretty excited about. I promise not to take as long to post photos of it.

(forgot to mention it's made out of wax infused paper and thread.)

there and back again

Back from our trip to the beach. Would have been more fun if there hadn't been 30 mph winds and some rain, but we still had a good time. Here's a preview of one of the many shots I took. This one includes that crown of branches I was telling you about. Will post more tomorrow.

my horse

I've been working on some circus inspired works recently. (You might remember this.) So I decided to dig up my old bouncy/rocking horse I got for christmas when I was about three. It's been hanging out under my parents house and I think I might have to find a space in my home for it. I had forgotten how beautiful and fun it is. It reminds me of carousel horses. You certainly can't find anything like that for kids nowadays. My mom even joked, "There's no way to strap you in! A child could fall off that thing now." Kids were just more balanced and substantial back in my day I guess.

polaroid black

After several weeks of not posting or photographing. I finally took some shots with my new black frame polaroid film. (which I love) Why didn't they do this ages ago? The black just makes everything more striking. Now I need to play with the new color film.

garfield polaroids

Remember those Jason Schwartzman polaroids I posted awhile back? Well band of outsiders picked another favorite actor (the imaginarium of dr. parnassus, kid a, i'm here & never let me go) Andrew Garfield. That boy is just too adorable.

white christmas

for the first time in my entire life, we had a white Christmas here in Atlanta! It snowed the entire day and into the next. The snow is still here! It was so exciting. I've been wishing for a white Christmas every year since I can remember. The only other one I've had was at my grandmother's house in Kentucky and it didn't last very long. Hope you all had a lovely holiday!

winter cleaning

With the day off last week (for ice...turned to water) and the two weeks I know have off until after the new year, my hubs and I have been cleaning and reorganizing out house. I love it! I love going through the containers you stuff random things in and cleaning it all out. I found a ticket stub from a show we went to in 2004 in our mail sorting box! I also have added many more polaroids to the hallway (notice I painted my stairs this summer too!) :

and I (as usual) couldn't wait to surprise my husband with his gift. (we weren't getting each other anything this year, but I didn't spend ANY money.) So we hung it on the wall next to his side of the bed. Remember our owl? I wasn't sure how it would turn out because I haven't really drawn anything besides contour line drawings in a long time.

Back from the Beach

Well, I didn't get around to posting yesterday. I had to much to do before going to work. So here are some of my polaroids from my trip. We had such a lovely time. The only thing I regret is not getting picture of me riding my horse on the beach. He was awesome.

It was a good day.

Yesterday, I got some delicious macaroons, went to anthropologie and got this headband I've been lusting after all year (which I got for 10% off because it was the last one and had been used in their display) and a cardigan I've been wanting that was finally on sale. Then I came home to find my new polaroid color film waiting for me in the mailbox! I love life sometimes.
