oh anna

I finally got to go see Anna Karenina this weekend after waiting forever for the limited release to spread a little more.  I was not disappointed.  From the very opening sequence I knew I was going to love this film.  I have truly never seen anything like it before.  It takes place almost entirely in this gorgeous old theater and transitions from scene to scene seamlessly.   In the beginning it's almost like a ballet as you watch the characters move around from place to place and at one point when Levin decides to leave society for the country, the back of the theater opens up and they are outside in the snow.  The sets and costumes are utterly breathtaking (a definite oscar frontrunner) and the acting is superb.  This is one you have to see in theater to appreciate all of the details.
