the art of forgetting

My first book cover came out yesterday.  It was on display right when I walked into Barnes and Noble!  I am so excited, especially since it's a photo I took of my husband and I together.  Could not be more perfect.  I started reading it yesterday and am almost halfway through.  It's called The Art of Forgetting by Camille Noe Pagan and you can purchase it here.

movie interiors: sex and the city: Carrie's apartment part 2

This is from the movie when she hires a decorator to redo her apartment.  I like parts of it, like the collage art wall behind her bed and the chaise lounge and color scheme, but mostly I miss  her old apartment.  This just feels too glam and styled to me.  The vanity and that terrible love sign by the wall don't feel like Carrie to me at all.  Also, what happened to her radiator that was beside her bed?  She might need that in the winter...  And where's Aiden's chair?!

movie/tv interiors: Sex and the City: Carrie's Apartment Part 1

This is the apartment we know and love from the television series and the beginning of the first film.  I love this apartment.  I really prefer it to the very blue redone version in the second half of the movie (which I'll post later.)  This version has so much charm and personality.  My favorite part (besides the closet of course) is her bedroom with the old chair and vintage black phone as her bedside table and the old desk with an antique mirror leaned on top as a make-shift vanity.

Her living room is so much cosier as well with Aiden's gorgeous leather armchair and her low coffee table she uses occasionally as a dining table.  And we all know I'm sucker for white subway tile so of course I love her bathroom as well.

the great gatsby

Saw the first trailer for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.  I am so excited for this film.  I read the book in high school, but honestly I hardly remember the details.  I just remember the style.  And if there's anything Baz Luhrmann is known for it's his highly stylized films.  This looks so fantastic I can't wait until Christmas!

Also excited for:
Paul Thomas Anderson's the master
Quentin Tarantino's django unchained (also staring leo)
Wes Anderson's moonrise kingdom (why is this already released in france?!)

studio inspiration

My husband and I decided a few weeks ago to swap sides of our studio downstairs.  I've always had the bigger half because I take up more space when I work.  I hardly ever work down there though and I feel like as soon as I'm down there I want to leave.  Then I realized my half was wide open on the right side because of the stairs.

I've always liked closing a door when I work and now I don't have that option.  So we switched sides (his idea not mine) and now instead of two walls I have three and make-shift divider made up of old windows that we installed years ago.

Now we're just getting some new/old pieces since we lost most of our stuff in the flood.  We found an amazing 1950's wood and leather tufted chair that rocks for only $5 at an estate sale.  I also got my husband an awesome old metal table on wheels that's been passed along by many artists at a moving sale of two artist friends of mine.

Now I love our new space and want to work in there all the time!  As soon as I find a table for my newly restored vintage sewing machine I'll post some pics.

You Should Take Care

Loving this series of double exposure paintings by artist Pakayla Biehn.  Using surrealistic photographs to make photorealistic paintings is such a fantastic idea.  You can see a listing of the different photographers she's worked with on this series on her website.
