Vally Nomidou

Just stumbled across this amazing sculptor Vally Nomidou via pinterest. Her work is so amazing. She creates everything almost entirely out of just paper. She doesn't use molds or casting and her colors are brought out by using different types of paper. If you read the article in the link above it goes into more detail about her amazing process. These pieces are all part of a series called Let It Bleed.

The Night Circus

I was recommended this book through amazon. Normally I ignore those emails, but when I saw the word "circus", I had to check it out. The description drew me in and when a friend of mine who has similar taste in books was also recommended it, we both decided to order it. I got two other books as well and I was going to wait and read that one later as it was the longest. It sat on my coffee table all weekend and come monday morning, I grabbed it to take with me to work. I didn't put it down for the next four days.

Rarely does a book suck me in as much as The Night Circus did. It was so fantastical and enchanting. The description of each and every part of the circus made me feel like I was right there in the middle of it. It's a story of magic (literally), love and enchantment. You must read this book!

btw-the whole time I was reading it I thought "someone MUST make this a movie!" Summit already bought the rights and the book was just released a week and half ago. Just sayin.

my horse

I've been working on some circus inspired works recently. (You might remember this.) So I decided to dig up my old bouncy/rocking horse I got for christmas when I was about three. It's been hanging out under my parents house and I think I might have to find a space in my home for it. I had forgotten how beautiful and fun it is. It reminds me of carousel horses. You certainly can't find anything like that for kids nowadays. My mom even joked, "There's no way to strap you in! A child could fall off that thing now." Kids were just more balanced and substantial back in my day I guess.

wallflower

Love everything about this lookbook from Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko. The wallpaper, the styling and especially the clothes themselves are just gorgeous. Who doesn't love a pop of red?

the new 2012 Frankie diary/calendar is here! I was lucky enough to win one in a blog giveaway last year from daydream lily. I use it almost everyday. It's helped me stay organized this year remembering due dates and events. I think I'll have to order one for next year.

crown

ever since I was a little girl I have had a huge fascination with crowns/tiaras. I wish I had kept more of them. I made an unusual one recently to use in a photograph that I will take on my upcoming vacation. Will post when I'm back.

I never really took much notice of kate bosworth but lately she's really been growing on me. These two ad campaigns I just discovered have bumped her up a few more notches in my book. (and how cute is her house?! I love her porch with the strands of lights and clothespined polaroids.)

movie interiors: miss pettigrew lives for a day

Once again, my favorite thing about this movie was Amy Adam's gorgeous apartment. That and Lee Pace speaking with a british accent and playing the piano... But back to the apartment. It was so grand with it's curving staircase and gold leaf walls. The star of the show was that amazing metallic wallpaper in her bedroom. The way the put it on those pocket doors made it even more fantastical. Let's not forget that unbelievable bathroom! The entry with bright red lamps leading you to a giant marble surround tub. Absolutely stunning.
